Parks Advisory Committee    

 

Authority:  Governed by By-Laws of the Committee

Purpose:  To serve as advisors to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) and the Parks Division.  Specifically, the Advisory Committee shall assist in the identification of sites for future community parks, boat ramps, beach access, parking, trails and bikeways and prepare a priority list for the establishment of new recreational locations.  The Committee shall recommend and assist in the development of joint use agreements with the School Board, Municipalities, YMCA, Eglin officials, State Forestry, and other partners to help reduce cost and help identify funding sources.  The Committee shall work with neighborhood associations to develop parks in existing neighborhoods.  In addition, the Committee shall make recommendations for improvements and/or renovations of existing parks.  Committee members will also coordinate and communicate with their respective district County Commissioner on input to current and future park related matters.

Members:  Consist of seven (7) citizens appointed by the Board of County Commissioners:  five (5) from the unincorporated areas of each Commissioner’s district and two (2) at large from incorporated and/or unincorporated areas with each County Commissioner district being represented by at least one member and at least one (1) member from an incorporated area.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Term:  3 years or until successors are appointed.  No member may serve more than two (2) consecutive three year terms.

Meetings: The Parks Advisory Committee meets the first Wednesday of every month form 3:00pm to 5:00pm alternating locations between the Public Works conference room in Crestview at 1759 S. Ferdon Blvd. and the conference room at the Okaloosa County Administration Building at 1250 N. Eglin Parkway in Shalimar.
